Why book the ATV with a private tour

A fully private, customizable North Shore day around your ATV slot

The ATV experience is an hour, and the farm sits out past Haleʻiwa on the Waialua coast — an hour from Waikiki with the whole North Shore around it. The rest of the day is the point. Your own guide builds it around your group and adjusts on the day for the wind, the waves and the weather — so you get the most out of every hour, not a fixed route.

Doing it on your own

  • The farm doesn’t include transportation — and Waialua is well past where the tour buses turn around
  • A fixed plan made from a hotel room, with no idea what the surf or the weather is doing today
  • Guessing which beach is safe, which break is working, where to eat
  • Time lost to parking, lines, and wrong turns

With a private local guide

  • 100% private — just your group, your pace, your stops
  • Customizable on the day: big swell? We chase the surf. Flat and clear? We snorkel. Rain on the North Shore? We move
  • A local who knows the beaches, the food, and the timing — and gets you in at Giovanni's without the line
  • Maximum North Shore, minimum wasted time: 7:00 AM pickup to 3:00 PM return, every hour used

About the ATV

Who runs it and what to expect

North Shore Stables

A local, family-owned farm on 67 oceanfront acres in Waialua — the only place on Oʻahu where you drive your own ATV across working farmland to the shore. You plant a native Hawaiian shoreline plant on the way round, which is how they rebuild the dunes, and you meet the goats, sheep, cows, pigs and chickens.

Book this ATV

Booked directly with North Shore Stables through the panel above. Free cancellation up to 48 hours before, and instant confirmation. Food and drinks aren’t included — that’s what the rest of the day is for.

Weight limits are real: 420 lb on a large ATV, 160 lb on a medium one. Groups over 20 need to call the farm directly.

After the ATV

Then the North Shore is yours

The farm sits at the western end of the North Shore, so everything below runs in one direction — east along the coast, back toward town. Nothing is backtracking. Your guide picks the order based on the day.

Lunch — your call

Two ways to do it:

Grab it and eat on the sand

Right after the ATV you’re minutes from Haleʻiwa, so the original Kua ʻAina for burgers and Foodland poke (the locals’ choice) come first. Further east, Giovanni’s garlic shrimp at Kahuku is the North Shore classic — and with us there’s no waiting in line. In winter that means eating shrimp while surfers take on humongous waves.

Sit down, ocean view

For a more luxurious lunch: Haleiwa Beach House, right on the water in town (closed Tuesdays), or Roy's Beach House at Turtle Bay, up the coast past the surf breaks.

The best beach for the day

We choose based on that day's wind, waves, and weather. Winter means Pipeline, Sunset Beach, or Waimea Bay when the big swells are running. Summer means Sharks Cove snorkeling, Waimea Bay swimming, and turtles at Laniakea.

Three ways to build the day — pick your ATV time

Morning ATV

9:30, 10:30 or 11:30 AMCoffee in Waialua on the way up, ATV mid-morning, and the whole afternoon on the coast. Haleʻiwa, Waimea, whichever break is working, and Giovanni’s for shrimp. Home through the middle, eight hours after pickup.

Afternoon ATV

1:30 or 2:30 PM · 10:00 AM startThe other way round. Out over the Pali and up the Windward coast, macadamia nuts at Tropical Farms, lunch at the original Giovanni’s in Kahuku, then west along the beaches to the farm. Haleʻiwa after, home about 6:00.

ATVs lined up at the shoreline in Waialua as the sun goes down Late ATV

3:30 PM · 10:00 AM startThe same East-side loop at a slower pace — longer at the farm stand, longer over lunch, longer on the beaches. You ride with the afternoon light coming across the water, which is the best of the day for photos. Home by about 6:30.

Either way, your guide photographs the whole day and shares a Google Drive folder afterward — included.

Start / finish Lunch & coffee Beaches Way home, if time allows

The East-side loop is the same route for the 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 slots — they just start later and take it slower. Tap a pin for details; click the map to enable scroll zoom.

What it costs

One flat rate for the whole group

The private tour is one price for the vehicle, not per person — so four people pay $200 each, six pay $133. The ATV is booked and paid separately with the farm: $125 a driver, $75 a passenger.

  1. Book the ATV

Your slot, directly with North Shore Stables, from the booking panel at the top.

  2. Reserve the private tour

Same date, 7:00 AM pickup. Full payment secures it; free cancellation up to 72 hours before.

  3. Tell us your hotel and ATV time

Reply to the confirmation. We set pickup, coffee, and check-in around it and plan the afternoon together.

Good to know

Questions people ask before they book

Do I need to book the ATV separately?

Yes. Book it through the panel above — you’re booking directly with North Shore Stables. Then reserve your private tour with us and tell us your slot. Sign their online waiver in the confirmation email before you arrive; it buys you more time on the ATV.

How old do you have to be to drive?

Large ATV drivers must be 16 or older, with a 420 lb weight limit. Medium ATV drivers must be 12 or older, with a 160 lb limit. Passengers ride from age 8. Everyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to sign for them.

Can two people share one ATV?

Yes — a driver at $125 and a passenger at $75. Passengers need to be 8 or older. If your group is bigger than 20, the farm asks you to call them directly.

How muddy does it get?

It is a working farm on the coast, so expect red dirt, and expect more of it after rain. Helmets, goggles and head socks are provided. We keep towels in the vehicle and there’s no rush to clean up before the next stop.

What should I wear?

Closed-toe shoes are required — no sandals or flip-flops — and clothes you don’t mind getting dusty. Bring sunglasses and sunscreen, and pack your swimsuit and a change of clothes for the beaches afterward. There’s room in the vehicle for everything.

What if it rains?

The ATVs run in light rain — it’s a farm, and the trail is built for it. The farm makes the call on the day, and cancels with a full refund if conditions are unsafe. We turn it into a beach and surf day instead.

What if I book a different slot?

We shift the whole day around it. A morning slot means the ATV first and the coast after; an afternoon slot flips it — East side first, ATV last. Tell us the time when you reserve.
